Injustice must not remain unnoticed

Scales for Justice (S4J) is a non-governmental organization established in September 2014 in accordance with the Swiss Civil Code Art. 60 and seq.

S4J was founded in the conviction that justice is precondition for universal and lasting peace, yet that far far too often injustice remains unnoticed and far too few times action is taken. S4J therefore sees its task in collecting information on issues related to human rights and to engage the concerned human rights bodies of the United Nations accordingly.

S4J is particularly concerned about violations of the four fundamental freedoms that lay the foundation for the Universal Declaration for Human Rights:  freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from fear, and freedom from want. This includes in particular the rights of minorities and the right to development, especially when violations affect fundamental rights such as the right to life and liberty, the right to due process and law, freedom of thought, freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly. S4J further examines cases of racial discrimination and racially motivated violence.

In order to achieve its goals S4J works hand in hand with human rights defenders, NGOs and peace missions on the ground.  In cases of particular concern S4J issues urgent appeals to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and presents them in meetings of competent  bodies of the United Nations such as the Human Rights Council. In urgent cases S4J  may consider it important to also invite victims to the UN to present their case.

S4J activities further incude humanitarian actions, presentations about specific human rights situations as well as trainings to associations and individuals interested in learning more about issues related to human rights and how to better advocate with the United Nations.

S4J activities  range from advocacy over educational projects and awareness programs to humanitarian support.
